Sagardi – Spanish Restaurant

Sagardi – Spanish Restaurant

Sagardi is an upmarket choice for both tapas and Basque cuisine with an injection of other regional varieties.
Sagardi is based on the old cider houses and small taverns of the Basque country, where locals would gather to try the year’s batch of cider.
Sagardi continually strives for a mix of class and tradition in its atmospheric tavern ambiance and high level service.
That said, you can pour your own cider from the barrel by your side. With en emphasis on natural quality, Sagardi is very selective with their ingredients and has a very close relationship with the producers, delivering from as far as it [...]

El Parisien – French Patisserie

El Parisien – French Patisserie

The one thing I noticed when moving to Spain was that while the croissants are look like French ones, they are always heavier and not nearly as buttery and as flaky.
I am glad to say that I’ve found a solution – El Parisien Café!
This French-style patisserie on Calle de Guillem de Castro is superb! Even the staff are French, which isn’t always a bad thing. The bread is amazing with everything from a baguette to bread with nuts and cumin, chocolate, onion and cheese…the list goes on.
But for me, their pan au chocolat (napolitanas de chocolate) are outstanding. Flaky and containing real [...]

Orient Xpress – Asian Noodle Bar in Carmen

Orient Xpress – Asian Noodle Bar in Carmen

Everything about Orient Xpress suggests a quick meal on the cheap. But forget anything you know about judging a restaurant by its appearance, because Orient Xpress is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

We’ll start with the good – the food is excellent. Far better than I had expected. I started with a salad followed by yaki udon noodles with beef, and both dishes were delicious.

Fresh ingredients in the salad and a perfect blend of spices & sauce in the noodles — and large quantities of both. I enjoyed every bite, and there was no room for dessert. Juergen had Gyoza [...]

Dhaba – Indian Restaurant

dhaba2

Near the Mercado Central, you’ll find a great little Indian restaurant and cocktail bar named Dhaba in the Plaza Don Juan de Villarrasa.
Served under a concept called “Thali”: created for people who want to sample the wide array of Hindu cooking instead of having to order just one large dish.
Thali consists of various dishes, called “Kaulis”. Our Thalis include seven Kaulis which are salad, yellow lentils, salted vegetables, basmati rice, curry, raita , and a dessert. You can choose between 4 different Thalis: Fish, Vegetarian, Chicken and Lamb (translated from Dhaba’s menu).
We tried the chicken and the lamb, and everything was delicious, [...]
