Firstly, this could go on for a long time, if you try conventional routes!
Historically the only place to get a landline telephone in Spain was with Telefonica – assuming you were at the end on one of their lines. But recently the business of telephones haas been opened up to Spanish mobile phone companies, Internet/ADSL providers and cable companies such as Vodafone, Jazztel and Ono.
Personally, after 2 years with Telefonica paying 120 Euros per month (before calls) for slow ADSL, unwatchable TV and poor telephone connections I changed to Jazztel. My bill, after the initial 3 months at 28 Euros is now 49 Euros per month for 20 mb/sec ADSL, FREE WiFi router, FREE calls to Spanish landlines and reduced mobile and International calls from Spain!
