Tomatina, Tomato Throwing in Buñol.

tomatina

The annual Spanish Tomatino festival, the biggest food fight in the world.
It consists of overripe tomatoes being thrown into drunken crowds!
The festival drew a record 40,000 people last year. First they wait for the big truck of tomatoes, then when it appears, they go nuts whipping tomatoes at each other. NOT FOR KIDS!

And after, there’s so much juice in the street…

Orient Xpress – Asian Noodle Bar in Carmen

Orient Xpress – Asian Noodle Bar in Carmen

Everything about Orient Xpress suggests a quick meal on the cheap. But forget anything you know about judging a restaurant by its appearance, because Orient Xpress is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

We’ll start with the good – the food is excellent. Far better than I had expected. I started with a salad followed by yaki udon noodles with beef, and both dishes were delicious.

Fresh ingredients in the salad and a perfect blend of spices & sauce in the noodles — and large quantities of both. I enjoyed every bite, and there was no room for dessert. Juergen had Gyoza [...]

El Jardín Botánico – The Botanical Gardens

el-jardin-botanico-3

The Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia was founded in 1567.
Throughout 200 years it was an orchard of medicinal plants for Medicinal studies. Until the 19th century it occupied diverse locations in the city of Valencia. It was in 1802 when it definitively located it to the University in the Orchard of Tramoyeres, outside the walls of the city, in the environs of the convent of San Sebastián, near the Towers of Quart.
Throughout the 19th century botany classes were held and the acclimatization of plants of agricultural interest was studied. During the 20th century, the Botanists underwent a long period of [...]

Exposicio Del Ninot 2009

ninot6

Welcome to the 75th Ninot Exhibition.

Ninots are tiny figures (compared to the big huge Fallas) which are placed within a Fallas exhibit. They provide some humor, often reflecting on the happenings of the past year.
It’s similar to the Carnival  from Germany and other places from around the world. The exhibit is a nice way to take a closer look at the often beautiful and artistic figures before they’re placed on the streets during La Planta and finally burned on La Crema.
One thing is certain – all the Ninots are burnt, except for the one saved by a public vote. [...]

Fallas 2011

fallas-7

For Valencia, the 19th March is the day of a great celebration. This is the night of fire – the explosive finale to Fallas.
The celebration starts on the 1st march and from this date through to the 19th March at 14:00 there is an amazing mascletá in the Plaza Ajuntamento. To see this arrive a couple of hours early and find a cafe – it gets very busy. A mascleta is “daytime fireworks” – ear splittingly loud and very smokey but worth seeing!
On the 17th and 18th there is the offering to the Virgin of the Abandoned ones, where the Valencians parade, [...]
